Winter can tend to bring us, among other things, dry hands! And regardless of the season, the use of hand sanitizer, and washing our hands at every opportune moment, it’s no wonder our hands feel rougher than a 24 grit sheet of sandpaper!

I’m a big collector and user of hand creams. Working as a makeup artist tends to leave me with dry hands at the best of times. Overcleaning and sometimes using alcohol-based makeup and solvents can wreak havoc on my most important tools of the trade!

Early in 2020, one of my favorite clean beauty brands released what has quickly become my savior in the dry hands department.

Biossance has once again come through with the goods with their Squalane and Omega Repair Hand Cream.

And my hands feel fantastic!

This blog post will take a solid look at Biossance’s Hand Cream and discover why this may be the perfect hand cream.

What Causes Dry Hands?

When we wash our hands, the soap and water we use can break down the naturally occurring oils in our skin. These oils are present to protect our skin. And when they are broken down, our skin can crack, flake, and generally become dry and vulnerable.

And of course, with the use of hand sanitizer in our lives these days, it’s no wonder your poor hands are suffering as a result.

The seasons are also a contributing factor to dry hands. In winter, when humidity levels drop, when we spend more time indoors with heating and even more dry air.

All of these factors can lead to your hands being dry.

So what do you do? Pop down to the drugstore and pick up your favorite lotion right?

WRONG!

.

Lotions Vs Creams

Think again! Not all of us are aware that lotions are never going to resolve your dry hand dilemmas as efficiently as creams will.

They tend to have higher water content and can evaporate more rapidly than creams.

So, read on and discover the solution that is Biossance Squalane Hand Repair Cream.

Biossance Squalane Hand Cream

I have only discovered the Hand Cream from Biossance in 2021, and my hands haven’t felt this good in years!

The cream comes in a tube package, in Biossance’s signature pastel green with pale apricot packaging. (Biossance have re-packaged since these pics were taken in 2020).

You can find Biossance Squalane and Omega Repair Hand Cream here.

It goes on very lightly, considering it is a rich cream. And this is where it beats the competition for me; it absorbs instantly!

No residue, no slidey fingers for the next 15 minutes. And certainly no need to wipe off most of what you put on so you can get on with your day!

I love it, and I’m sure you will too.

What Makes Biossance Hand Cream So Good?

As they state on the website’s blog, a good hand cream should contain the following:

  • humectants
  • occlusives
  • emollients

The Biossance Hand Cream delivers on all of these goodies.

Humectants

A humectant is a material that pulls moisture into your skin. An efficient humectant will also work to keep that moisture locked in.

,

Some materials you may well have heard of but not identified as humectants include AHA’s, Salicylic Acid, Glycerin, Hyaluronic Acid, Urea, Panthenol Glycol, and Sodium Lactate.

.

Biossance Squalane and Omega Repair Hand Cream contains glycerin to act as a humectant and draw moisture into your skin.

Emollients

An emollient is a fatty acid that will soften or smooth the skin.

.

Emollients commonly used in skincare products include coconut oil, lanolin, beeswax, cetyl stearate, and squalane.

..

Biossance Squalane and Omega Repair Hand Cream uses sugar-cane-derived squalane as its emollient to help smooth your skin.

.

.

Occlusives

An occlusive product is present in skincare to help create a barrier on the skin’s surface. And to help prevent moisture loss. Occlusives tend to be oily or waxy substances.

.

Occlusives commonly found in skincare include but are not limited to olive oil, soybean oil, silicones, dimethicones, white petrolatum, and shea butter.

.

Biossance Squalane and Omega Repair Hand Cream uses shea butter as an occlusive to create a barrier on your skin’s surface to help keep moisture in.

So these are the three basic types of ingredients you should be looking for in a hand cream.

The beauty of Biossance’s Hand Cream is that you will find that you apply it less often during the day. It will keep working once it’s on. Sounds too good to be true, right?

If you find your hands are still dry, despite using a hand cream when you can remember to, pay attention. This is my favorite, non-facial treatment that I love to give myself on a weekend, or if I have some quiet time to myself!
