Kahi Seoul Wrinkle Bounce Multi Balm

So, while not a true lip product, this intriguing multi-tasker from Kahi Seoul is worth mentioning on my list.

With ingredients described as salmon collagen and salmon PDRN, a little further digging revealed some interesting things about these ingredients.

The National Library of Medicines describes PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotides) as, well, essentially the DNA of salmon sperm.

These materials are supposed to help restore the skin’s elasticity by increasing the collagen levels in the skin. And also help reduce inflammation.

Let’s just hope it doesn’t go all “Monkey Shines” on us (check it out if you like campy 80’s horror/thrillers).

And may be worth avoiding altogether if you suffer any seafood allergies!

Maybe I’m late to this K-beauty trend, as I do recall an actor telling me about his wife’s beauty products containing animal sperm earlier this year. But nevertheless, this is still unsettling and more than a little intriguing for me.

Yep, I’m the 1% that just shouldn’t wear lipstick. And the lipstick on the teeth? Well, I have that look down! (Read on for the accompanying visual).

Perhaps one day that’ll be the latest trend with the kids and I will just have been waaaayy ahead of my time!

Til the cows actually DO come home, and pigs are charging more than the current going price for first class, we are left with the age-old problem of how to remove lipstick stains from our lips (let alone everywhere else!)

So I have kindly put this guide together for you.

And together with a few of my favorite hacks, tips, and products, I will help you remove that stubborn lipstick stain, all while being gentle to your lips.

No sandpapering required here.

Sometimes the Most Simple Method Is the Best For You

The Tried and True Vaseline Trick

1. Remove all the lipstick you can by popping your favorite make-up remover onto a cotton ball or cotton pad (see my faves above, but whatever takes your fancy)
2. Remember to be gentle! We’re not attempting to sandblast your lips into oblivion here, just gently removing as much lipstick product as we can.
3. Once you have done that and are left with a pink or red stain on your lips, it’s time to apply a bit of vaseline or petroleum jelly. Be generous, and let it sit for 5 minutes.
4. Apply with a cotton swab or an exfoliating lip brush to give a gentle exfoliation at the same time. Just keep the motions gentle, though.
5. Beauty hack – why not pair this with a quick eye mask as a very grand excuse for a quick mask session while you’re at it?
6. Use your favorite washcloth or reusable cotton pad and some warm water and buff away in a circular motion what’s left.
7. If your household supply of vaseline is out, try alternatives such as olive oil, coconut oil, or some good old-fashioned cold cream, and be sure to let it sit for a while.

Pro Tip – I like to fill one of these pens with my fave remover and just brush it on to gently start the stain removal process.

Is Your Stubborn Lipstick Still Not Removing?

Okay, so you’ve tried everything and you’re still looking like you had way too good of a time eating your beets?

Well, there’s one last stop, and if you paid attention to my studies of what removes the KD 151 Tattoo Ink Pen, then this should be a no-brainer for you.

Yes, once again, I’m here to write home about the wonderful and totally altogether underrated Plasma Soap from Premier Products Inc. It’s basically a stain remover for makeup. This makes it the perfect candidate to help remove lipstick stains from your lips.

1. I suggest applying a small amount of Plasma soap onto a cotton pad, then popping it onto your bottom lip, in the center of your lips.
2. Gently rub the product onto your lips, and avoid actually getting the soap into your mouth! I do this by making my lips the shape I make when I’m whistling. When your lips are pursed (is that what it’s called!) they also provide a bit of resistance against the cotton pad as well, and this can help you along in the stain removal, too.
3. With your damp towel begin to wipe off the plasma soap, and the stain should come away, as well. Plasma soap may well be the quickest way to remove any tough lip stains, or pigment stains in general.

KJ’s Way – add some brown sugar to the Plasma soap for a gentle exfoliation treatment. Massage the mixture into your lips with your finger whilst removing your stubborn lip stain at the same time! This is the perfect, gentle method to remove the dead skin cells on your lips. I just tinkered with this method whilst researching for this blog post! LOVE IT!

In a past life, I may have recommended makeup wipes as the quick fix solution. But I truly do try to avoid them nowadays, for fear of producing more waste than is humanly possible. Especially when it’s got that hot pink hue that comes with post-worn red lipstick.

It takes a minute to master using the soap for your lipstick removal. But I guarantee that it will gently and very efficiently remove all hints of red stain from your lipstick. In one swipe!

Things To Remember About the Challenges of Lipstick Stained Lips

• These days a great majority of lip products are designed to be long-wear lipstick; long-lasting, liquid lipstick, smudge-free, transfer-resistant, and bleed-resistant. All these terms basically equate to NOT COMING OFF!
• So if you’re going to wear or use a highly-pigmented red lipstick, or particularly a matte lipstick (these tend to have less oil or emollient within, and are therefore harder to remove) the hard honest fact is, they are not going to be easy to remove.
• Lipstick will not remove with water alone!
• As I’ve mentioned already – be gentle on your lips! At the end of the day, nobody wants the cheese-grater look. If you’re out of cotton balls, don’t go for the paper towel, use a face cloth or something softer. Take it slow, be patient and just know that eventually, your lips will return to their natural tone again soon.
• If you do get over-zealous in a frenzy of lipstick stain removing, you may end up with incredibly dry skin on your lips. So be sure to pop on your best lip balm as soon as you can to treat your lips afterward.
• Try a Lip Primer. You may find that using a lip primer may be just the ticket to not only help your lipstick stay on all day but help it remove with way less drama.

How to Look After Your Lips

• Keep your lips hydrated in between lipstick applications. You can do this with regular use of your favorite lip balm. This will help prevent cracked or chapped lips and not only help your lipstick look fab, but help it remove way more easily, too.
• Drink water. You can start your lip hydration journey from within, my friend! This will help keep your lips from drying out and in doing so, help hold lipstick much more easily. And in turn, help it remove like a breeze.
• Don’t smoke. Yul Brynner said it best (and sadly, in saying so, I’ve shown you just how many decades I’ve been stomping about on the planet) and for those all born many years after me, just trust me!

The Rule of the Color Wheel

As you know, the color wheel and color fundamentals play a bigger part in makeup color choice than we can give it credit for.

So when choosing lip colors for yourself, or for someone else, be sure to determine the undertone of the skin tone in question first. When you know this information, it will help eliminate certain shades that won’t compliment the skin tone in question and make your choices so much easier.

Warm Undertones

If your skin or your client’s skin tone is more on the warmer side, in general, this means you should steer more towards orange, red, or peachy-toned lipsticks.

Cool Undertones

If the skin tone in question is more on the cooler side, you can veer towards blue-based reds, berries, and nudes.

This is a very general guide, but helpful if you’re starting out or not sure where to begin in choosing your next berry lipstick.

I’m drawn to this lipstick like a moth to a flame! The day wear tone is so pretty on fairer skin tones. So if you have a fairer skin tone, you could easily just stick with the day shade and keep the night shade (which is more of a deep plum tone) for special occasions or a more dramatic look.

Best Berry Lipstick for Thin Lips

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Bombshell Red

A gloss finish lipstick is a thin-lipped person’s secret weapon in the quest for fuller lips. And for a non-surgical makeup hack – you can even add a touch of hi-gloss lip balm (like this one) to the center of your top and bottom lips for a subtle highlight to help create to look of a fuller lip as well.

Don’t be put off by the name. Yes, it is called Bombshell Red, but it’s not a true red lipstick. Although this lipstick runs slightly warm and going back to that old friend of ours, the color wheel, we know that warm colors tend to look closer and therefore, fuller on the lips (and cool colors recede, or look smaller).

If that’s still a little tricky to understand, think cool colors recede, or look smaller and warm colors come forward, or look bigger. Let’s go into this in-depth together one day soon!

The first thing I noticed about the primer is its creamy texture. It glides on with ease much like a creamy concealer.

Some lip primers have a funky texture that feels a little weird on your lips. You just want to get it off asap – you know the kind.

E.L.F’s primer is rich and creamy but lightweight enough to not feel heavy on the lips. It feels really nice!

Not Great for Women of Color

With its ivory-beige hue, this primer isn’t a good choice for women of color. The shade looks a little bizarre when worn on its own.

One Amazon reviewer wrote, “Definitely not NATURAL for women of color! You’ve been warned.”

It would be nice if they created this formula so that it suits all skin colors.

Perhaps release it in a range of various tones?

It Smooths Out Lines

The primer provides an even base for the plumper and other lip products.

According to one Amazon reviewer, it can even smooth out fine lines on the lips.

“My lips are on the wrinkly side and I find the primer helpful in making my lipliner easier and smoother to apply,” she wrote.

It Contains Talc

While talc is great for absorbing oil, many people are actually allergic to talc. A couple of reviewers have complained of allergies after using this product. So if you have a known talc allergy, steer clear of this product.

While it’s not advisable to wear this alone (see above con) this primer did end up helping my Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk lippie stay in place all day! (A rare occurrence when it comes to lipstick and my face, let me tell you!) So that’s two thumbs up for its ability to work underneath lipstick.

You’ll know it’s working when you feel that tingling sensation.

Don’t worry, it isn’t painful. You’ll feel an immediate cooling sensation followed by a subtle plumping tingle effect. It actually feels rather nice.

For me personally, this resulted in more of a flushing of the lips. Brought on, of course, by the aforementioned “tingling” caused by the cinnamon it contains.

One thing many reviewers agree on is that this plumper delivers results that last a few hours. In other words, you don’t need to keep reapplying.

At around $4, you can’t really complain about the price. It’s a bargain. For what this two-in-one product offers, it’s not going to break the bank. 

Of course, you’re not going to see the kind of dramatic results you see from fillers, but the product – especially when used together – does offer a subtle, temporary plumping effect.

And you have to remember that for $4, you’re getting two products – a primer and a plumper. Pretty good deal. Right?

E.L.F’s Lip Plumper and Primer is a two-in-one product that delivers a softer, smoother, plumper pout that lasts for hours.

With its cinnamon scent and taste, and silky texture, this duo glides on beautifully. 

It can be your daily go-to for a perfect pout.

Does it Work?

In my humble opinion and judging from what I’ve found online about the e.l.f Lip Plumper and Primer reviews and feedback, I’d have to say it definitely does work. Just a little.

The results are not dramatic, but you can certainly notice a slight improvement in lip condition and size. 

The secret to making this product work its best is to use both sides of the tube. 

And for me, I’d have to say I was more pleased and surprised by the primer than the plumper.

After much testing with the primer – wearing it under lipstick, on its own, and with the plumper.

And for someone who doesn’t wear lipstick well (although it seems to love being on my teeth, cheeks, and generally anywhere except my lips!) this primer helped my lipstick stay put, for longer and it looks more even as well.

I’ll definitely use this lip primer again in the future!

What Can You Do to Keep Lipstick From Bleeding?

1. Moisturize

Keeping your lips hydrated will help prevent them from becoming chapped, contributing to the bleeding of lipstick. Use a lip balm or cream before applying any product for smoother application and maximum comfort.

2. Use a Lip Pencil

Before you even apply anything else on your face, use a lip pencil to outline the shape of your lips. It’s essential to make sure the edges of your lips are lined and defined before applying any lipstick. This will help create clean lines and keep you from over-applying lipstick elsewhere on your face, which can cause it to run down or smear!

3. Use Concealer as a Lip Primer

Using concealer before putting on any other makeup product is an easy way to prevent bleeding because it blots out any excess oil on your lips and creates a smooth base for lipstick.

4. Blot and Set

After applying your lipstick, blot the color from your lips with a tissue before setting it in place with translucent powder or using an aerosol spray to seal it into place. This will help set the product so that there’s not as much transfer onto your teeth when you eat or drink.

5. Use a Translucent Powder

Powders help create a matte finish and seal the color into place. This will also protect you from bleeding, so you don’t have to worry about reapplying throughout the day!

6. Pat and Smudge Your Lips

After applying your blotted lipstick, gently pat your lips together with a tissue in between each stroke of application until you have fully covered them. To help keep lipstick from transferring off your lips onto the skin around them, pat on a little more to smudge it out in an even layer all the way around so that there are no dry patches left behind. This will also create a matte finish for you!

7. Set Your Lips

Setting sprays like Coola Setting Spray with SPF 30 works best for this. They help keep the color locked down without feeling heavy, and help your makeup last longer than usual, even through eating or drinking!

8. Use a Lip Sealer

To seal in lipstick, invest in a quality lip sealer. One of my favorites is Lipchic which I use on set for kissing scenes where we have to re-set between multiple takes – always a stressful day when there’s red lipstick involved!

9. Don’t Smoke!

Smoking can make your lips dry and chapped, which will lead to bleeding. Not only that, but it’s also a good idea to stop smoking because of the many health risks associated with it (including cancer!). So, don’t smoke!

10. Use a Sharpener!

A sharp lip liner will help clean up any smudges or uneven lines so that your lips are outlined in the perfect shape! It’s also worth noting that you should always use a sharpened pencil for this; otherwise, it can tug at your skin. And let’s not deny it. We should all own at least one good quality sharpener in our makeup bag!

11. Outline the outline of your lips

A trick that I’ve been using onset is to use Urban Decay’s Clear Ozone Pencil to literally outline the outside of your lipline. This line acts as a wax sealer and prevents bleeding outside your lip area. I love this technique – although it may take a few times to become second nature, it’s worth mastering!

Applying Lipstick Without Bleeding

You know that feeling when you’re about to apply your favorite shade of lipstick, and it just won’t stay on your lips? It’s frustrating, especially if you spent time choosing a color and putting on the rest of your makeup. You might be tempted to give up or pick another lip product, but don’t throw in the towel just yet! There are some things you can do to apply lipstick without bleeding.

12. Use a Lip Brush

If you’re looking for a more precise lipstick application without bleeding, try using a good quality lip brush. A lip brush will give you far more control and a cleaner finish to your lipstick application.

13. Go For a Long-Lasting Lipstick

If you want to keep your lipstick on all day, it’s best to choose a high-quality, long-lasting product. It’ll last longer and stay on your lips better than other lipsticks will – plus, if the rest of your makeup is done correctly (primer or setting powder), this can help prevent smudging!

For a more long-lasting lipstick, try one that has moisturizing ingredients like vitamins A and E to really lock in hydration and seal in color.

14. Drink with a Straw

If you’re worried about lipstick transferring to cups or glasses, try drinking from a straw so that the liquid doesn’t touch your mouth! This is especially helpful if you find that the lipstick can rub off on eating utensils as well.

15. The Finger Trick

Nothing beats that feeling of being told you have lipstick on your teeth! Well, in case you haven’t heard the old secret technique, here it is. Wash your hands first of all, and dry them too. After your lipstick is applied, pop your clean pointer finger in your mouth, and pop your lips on it like it’s your favorite pop stick. Then as you remove your finger, it will take with it any excess lipstick that may have made its way inside your mouth and in prime lipstick on your teeth territory!

And you can always do a quick clean of your teeth with your tongue trick, too.

How to Remove Long-Lasting Lipsticks

As much as we love our long-lasting lipsticks, they do have their disadvantages. If it’s time for you to remove your lipstick and there are some stains on the skin around your mouth (especially if it was a strong red pigment or a dark color), don’t panic! There is an easy way to get rid of them.

The best way is with a micellar water cleanser. Simply apply a few drops onto a washcloth or cotton ball. Starting at the center of your lips, rub off the lipstick and watch the color fade away.

You can also use good old-fashioned Vaseline in a pinch. It will work wonders in removing that last remaining stain.

How to Maintain Your Lips Between Lipstick Applications

Following these practices while you’re not wearing lipstick will help prevent bleeding when you are wearing lipstickk.

16. Keep them Hydrated

Apply a nourishing lip balm to your lips every day between lipstick applications. By keeping your pout moisturized, you prevent dryness and flaking, making lipstick look smoother and better overall.
You can use a lip balm, lip cream, lip oil, or Vaseline – just choose something hydrating that’s really going to seal in moisture and maintain healthy lips.

17. Scrub Your Lips

Exfoliating your lips ensures they stay soft and healthy. That’s because it removes dead skin cells, making way for fresh skin and fresher-looking lips.
It also allows lipstick and other lip products to glide on more easily and penetrate the skin more deeply.

An exfoliating lip brush or sugar scrub can also do weekly wonders when you’re not wearing lipstick too.

18. Massage Your Lips

Massaging your lips is a great way to improve blood circulation and deliver nutrients to give them a healthy glow and smooth texture.
Opt for a vitamin-enriched oil when massaging the lips. Spend 2-3 minutes working it into your lips. For best results, do this every day.

19. Protect Your Lips

Lips get a lot of sun exposure – especially the bottom lip. That’s why it’s crucial to apply sunscreen or a protective lip product that contains SPF 15 or higher. Wearing this daily will shield your lips from harsh UV rays, preventing skin cancer and warding off dryness.

20. Drinks Lots of Water

Another way to keep your pout super hydrated is by staying hydrated on the inside. In other words, drink up!
Drinking plenty of water keeps your body functioning properly and your energy levels high, your skin clear, and your lips smooth and healthy.
And when you’ve got a smooth, hydrated base, lipstick just looks way better.

21. Try a Lip Mask

Once or twice a week, treat your pout to an antioxidant-loaded lip mask to give your lips some extra TLC. This’ll give them the intense hydration and nutrients they need to thrive and look incredible for your next lipstick application.
Look for a mask with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, coconut oil, and argan oil. These are the best for providing intense moisturization for your pout.

I just had to have them! I love the idea of just throwing on a bit of color with a pencil, especially for day wear, these days.

If you’re anything like me, you usually end up smearing lipstick over your face, teeth, or hands at the best of times. Or perhaps you are prone to your lipstick bleeding.

Well, these creamy matte lip pencils may be just what you are looking for.

There’s something about a no-nonsense nude lip color that gives you the definition and color you need, but in an understated, classic way.

So let’s take a look at the new (ish) Natasha Denona I Need A Nude Lip Crayon collection.

The Texture

The Natasha Denona I Need A Nude Lip Crayon goes on with a super smooth and creamy feel.

Once on the lips, it has a slightly tacky feel, and at this stage, it’s difficult for me to resist smacking my lips together as if to dry the product (even though it’s not really in need of drying).

Soon the tackiness passes as the product sets on the lips. And once this has occurred, it is quite difficult to shift the product at all.

The Verdict

I feel like these lip products may easily become part of my daily routine.

Uber-cool-toned neutral and mauve in it’s shading. If your lips tend to turn everything to rust (like mine do) this may well be the dream product for your lips. Besame is a brand I would describe as classic femininity personified. With their unique ‘period correct’ lip colors re-creating lipsticks from decades gone by, you cannot go wrong any product in the Besame line. I have chosen American Beauty because it withholds that timeless 1940’s look. And honestly, this red looks great on absolutely everyone!
Rich, flattering and long-lasting. Plus it really is delivered in the cutest packaging! Besame American Beauty is honestly a no-brainer to make the top 25 best lipsticks of 2024 for me.

#5 NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl

Another iconic red shade, this NARS pencil offers a matte finish with a creamy texture. If you haven’t tried these yet, you must do me (and yourself) a favor. They take the hard work, the lipliner-fear and all the time out of lipstick, and deliver you great coverage and speed, and surprisingly creamy lip coverage all in one simple and effective lip crayon. And I promise it’ll take minutes off your usual makeup routine.

#4 Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G. Night Crimson

Charlotte Tilbury has become something of a modern-day beauty icon worthy of it’s classic cult status. It is creamy and sumptuous. A delight to wear.
If you haven’t yet, I suggest you jump on board the Tilbury train and discover just what we are all raving about.

I love the addition of Night Crimson to my list this year for all the reasons it’s totally different to every other lipstick in this top 25.

It’s deep. It’s dark and it’s oh so demure (yah, 2024 I know, but it seemed so right!)

#3 Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint in Unlocked

A bold, true-hot pink liquid lipstick with a soft matte finish, known for its long-wearing formula. I am so drawn to this shade like a magnet. So gorgeous on medium to darker skin tones – and in a way, as flattering as a red, just way more daring. I wish the image did this shade justice. It’s just so pink!
Love it!

#2 Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in Inspirante

Yes, there she is! In all her matte glory. She goes on like a dream and just magically brings me to life.

(and while this Chanel inclusion means I’ve had to give my beloved CT M.I. Kiss a rest for year – she’s earned it) my lipstick intuition tells me this is a fine replacement indeed.

#1 MAC Ruby Woo

Okay. It’s official. It’s now become a bona fide classic. Ruby Woo the red shade with a matte finish, known for its universal appeal and long-lasting formula.

And this year, yet again, it’s my #1. Right on point with the bold lip shades that will become synonymous with this quarter century-marker year.
I use this lipstick on more period shows than I can count, and it’s still got a current, face-forward vibrancy and will never go out of style.
