Ever since I remember buying my first lipstick (oh how grown up I felt at 17!), berry lipstick has always been a shade I could count on.
It has always been flattering and complementary to my skin tone, no matter the season. And now, over 1,027 years later, I still love to do a good berry lipstick like a champion.
So much so that I felt compelled to explore what’s currently available in the world of berry. I put it up there at the top with a 1940’s red as being a tone that looks great on everyone.
I don’t know about you, but it’s quite possibly my most often worn lipstick shade. I hope you like my picks for the best of berry lips in 2022! Now, let’s go berry picking together!

Best Lip Tint Berry Lipstick
Hemp Organics Organic Lip Tint in Berry

A great choice when you’re looking for a lipstick finish but without committing. Hemp Organics is a petroleum-free, gloss lip balm made from beeswax and carnauba wax. This is the perfect alternative that will still provide a gloss, pigmented finish, in a balm formulation.
The Rule of the Color Wheel
As you know, the color wheel and color fundamentals play a bigger part in makeup color choice than we can give it credit for.
So when choosing lip colors for yourself, or for someone else, be sure to determine the undertone of the skin tone in question first. When you know this information, it will help eliminate certain shades that won’t compliment the skin tone in question and make your choices so much easier.
If your skin or your client’s skin tone is more on the warmer side, in general, this means you should steer more towards orange, red, or peachy-toned lipsticks.
If the skin tone in question is more on the cooler side, you can veer towards blue-based reds, berries, and nudes.
This is a very general guide, but helpful if you’re starting out or not sure where to begin in choosing your next berry lipstick.
If you’re still stumped and totally overwhelmed by all of this (I was told there’d be no math!) take a peek at these lippies below as I’ve given you a basic guide and perfect starter’s cheat sheet if you will for great berry-tones for different skin tones and lip shapes as well.
Best Berry Lipstick for Fair Skin
e.l.f. Day to Night Lipstick Duo in The Best Berries
- dual-ended for day and nightwear
- satin finish
- low-cost for high quality
I’m drawn to this lipstick like a moth to a flame! The day wear tone is so pretty on fairer skin tones. And yes, I know it’s bordering on a mauve tone, and essentially I’m breaking my own rules, but too bad! So if you have a fairer skin tone, you could easily just stick with the day shade and keep the night shade (which is more of a deep plum tone) for special occasions or a more dramatic look.
This is a great lippie with two versatile shades in one product. Can’t go wrong.
Best Berry Lipstick for Dark Skin Tone
L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Lipstick in Roseblood
- up to 16 hours wear
- highly pigmented shades
- matte formula without drying
This is such a beautiful lipstick in the plum shades. I couldn’t resist including it. And on darker skin tones, it just pops. I like to think of it as a fine merlot and quite the statement lip color. You could even dress it up with a bit of balm for evening wear if this is your day color, too.
The tapered applicator allows for perfect application everytime, as well.
Best Berry Lipstick for Thin Lips
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Bombshell Red
- vitamin E and avocado oil infused
- buttery consistency
- lightweight feeling
- America’s #1 lip brand
A gloss finish lipstick is a thin-lipped person’s secret weapon in the quest for fuller lips. And for a non-surgical makeup hack – you can even add a touch of hi-gloss lip balm (like this one) to the center of your top and bottom lips for a subtle highlight to help create to look of a fuller lip as well.
Don’t be put off by the name. Yes, it is called Bombshell Red, but it’s not a true red lipstick. Although this lipstick runs slightly warm and going back to that old friend of ours, the color wheel, we know that warm colors tend to look closer and therefore, fuller on the lips (and cool colors recede, or look smaller).
If that’s still a little tricky to understand, think cool colors recede, or look smaller and warm colors come forward, or look bigger. Let’s go into this in-depth together one day soon!
Best Berry Lipstick for Full Lips
Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink in Founder
- high pigment
- up to 16 hr wear
A deeper berry-toned liquid lipstick. The matte formula will help diffuse the light reflecting off the lips and draw attention away from your pout. Not that there is ANYTHING wrong with having a glorious Angelina Jolie-worthy put these days!
It’s also slightly on the cooler side as well. And being a cool tone, will give the illusion of thinning your lips (if that’s something you even care about!)
That’s it for my beloved berry lipsticks. I hope this helps you on your quest to find the perfect berry shade for your skin tone, or that of your client or performer.
I truly feel there is something timeless about soft berry lipstick shades and I hope you find your perfect match too.
