What’s the Most Important Word in Makeup?

First, a little backstory.
I learned the validity of this word, technique, topic when I was just 17. By way of one of my favorite makeup teachers.

And I still feel strongly that this is the most important word, technique, and topic to learn and understand in makeup, if you’re gonna be good at makeup, your own, or on others, whether you’re a pro or you just do your own makeup at home, it doesn’t matter.

I’ve even just named my weekly newsletter after it. Yep. I’ve just decided this.

It’s blend!

Why is Blending So Important?

Blending is truly the secret to all flawless makeup because for the most part, our makeup is meant to look like it’s one with our skin.

Especially foundation, bronzer, highlighters, and cheek shades.

Basically everything we put on our faces to enhance our complexions should be blended. And blended well.

How Do You Blend Well?

With the right tools and the right techniques.

The right tools for blending my foundation tend to all be Bdellium brushes.

Bdellium brushes are solid, well-made, and synthetic brushes that I can always rely on, and the right techniques are the ones that work for you and for me when blending.

So it’s all about spending a little more time to really work the product to ensure that it’s uniform on your skin and all over your skin so that you can’t see any brush strokes and that it feels good on your skin as well.

How a Product Feels is as Important as How It Looks

I like to use circular motions to really buff in a cream or liquid foundation, and I try to use upward strokes more often than not.

Always apply foundation products, actually most makeup products upwards and outwards.

One of my favorite makeup teachers that I’ve ever had taught me about this when I was 17.

And I still feel strongly that this is the most important word, technique, and topic to learn and understand in makeup if you’re gonna be good at makeup. Your own, or on others, whether you’re a pro or you just do your own makeup at home, it doesn’t matter.

And it’s even the new name of my weekly newsletter. Yep. I’ve just decided this. So I guess this is kind of the official announcement. Have you signed up yet? I’ll link to it in the show notes for you, because if you haven’t, you’re missing out, and you’ll get to know this very vital word and verb to make up.

Any guesses? Come on, take a guess at what the single most important word in makeup is.

It’s blend.

To not blend is to err, and to blend is to err on the side of perfection.

I just made that up. I think I’m, I might have to put that as a quote on my old Instagram page or something.

But seriously, blending is truly the secret to all flawless makeup because while, for the most part our makeup is meant to look like it’s one with our skin, don’t you think?

I mean, that’s what we put it on for, to blend in, particularly foundation, bronzer, highlighters, and cheek shades.

Basically, everything we put on our faces to enhance our complexions should be blended within an eon of its life.

So how do you blend well?

With the right tools and the right techniques?

And for me, the right tools for blending my foundation tend to all be (B)dellium brushes. Did you like the way I said that? If you know how it’s felt, oh man, maybe I’m some kind of genius and I’m just not aware. But remember, the ‘b’ is silent.

Bdellium brushes are solid, well-made, and synthetic brushes that I can always rely on. And the right techniques are the ones that work for you and for me when blending. So it’s all about spending a little more time to really work the product to ensure that it’s uniform on your skin and all over your skin so that you can’t see any brush strokes and that it feels good on your skin as well.

Because for me, how a product feels is as important as how it looks to everyone else and to yourself, of course. So I like to use circular motions to really buff in a cream or liquid foundation, and I try to use upward strokes more often than not. I know this is super old school, but there’s something that not only feels bad when it’s being done on you.

So when you are having your makeup done and your skin is getting dragged downwards especially older skin, it’s just not a good look, dragging it down.
So, up, up, up, I say always, always up and out.

And if you’re a brush beginner or a complete newbie to the idea of using a brush for your foundation, then I have the guide for you.

I created a free foundation brush guide, and inside my guide I go through the basics of different foundation brush types, what they’re best suited for, and the reasons why you should become a foundation brush convert.

So check it out at The Makeup Refinery and I’ll also link to it in the episode show notes.
