Episode 12: Show notes
This is my first product review episode of 5 Minute Face Talk so I’m more than a little excited to get started and share with you my initial thoughts from having used the palette.
I’m a big fan of Danessa, both as a makeup artist, an entrepreneur and just generally as an all-round, top human being, so it was an easy choice to invest in her brand new palette and have a play with these super-cool eyeshadow and pomade formulations.
I hope you enjoy this episode!
Danessa Myricks Groundwork Palette Review Pt. 1
Shade Range
The shades are entirely neutral, meaning that for the most part, they are neither warm or cool in undertone.
So the browns aren’t super red or orange, and they don’t oxidize the second that they reach your skin.
The shades are spectacular and this really could become the only palette that you carry.
Can this palette replace the need for depotting?
Pomade
The pomade texture is unique and almost indescribable.
It’s so far from cream or a grease paint. It feels like the future of makeup has arrived, and that’s really exciting.
The pomades are almost malleable, like you can sculpt with them. But even though you put it on and you blend it out and it goes on really softly and velvety. But it doesn’t feel like a cream, it feels like a powder going on, actually.
Then you also don’t feel like you have two seconds to blend it before it sets.
It’s really like nothing I’ve used before in makeup. And honestly, I feel like this might just change things for us, makeup artists, a little bit.
My prediction is that we will start seeing this formulation in more and more products as soon as they can get them manufactured as well.
And this may very well become your go-to palette for character makeup.
I love the idea of using this palette with alcohol or isododecane for aging spots and in character makeups as well as beauty looks. I do feel like it’s got the potential for that much versatility.

Episode Transcript
Welcome back to Five Minute Face Talk. Now, I’m quite excited about this episode because I’m doing something that I haven’t done before, and that is I’m going to review a brand new product. It’s new for me, so I just kind of bought it on a whim a few days ago, and I finally had the chance to have a bit of a play.
And now this product is Danessa Myricks’ Groundwork Palette.
So if you’ve been living under a rock and you haven’t yet heard about the release of this makeup palette, now is the time to listen up, my friend.
It’s weird, I never thought that makeup palettes would be anticipated in a pop star kind of way, but there we are.
Honestly, I adore Danessa. I think she’s genuinely divine, and I’ve been lucky enough to witness makeup demos of hers in person. And I do, I just adore her. She’s so genuine and just sincere and full of love and warmth, and I think she really does care about the people that she serves and the products that she presents.
So that’s partly why I’m super happy about this being potentially the first of many product reviews on the show.
So let’s get to it.
I was more than happy to fork out some hard-earned cash the other day and get my very own groundwork palette from my local Sephora a few days ago. So first of all, I wanna discuss the range of shades with you, and I love that for the most part, these shades are entirely neutral tones. So the browns aren’t super red or orange, and they don’t oxidize the second that they reach your skin.
The shades are spectacular and this really could become the only palette that you carry.
So I’m gonna just say this, if you don’t know me yet, I have this love-hate relationship with de-potting, right? Well, this palette could single-handedly eradicate de-potting once and for all for me.
Wouldn’t the world be a brighter place without a million extra plastic pallets that are never gonna break down?
Oh, de-potting, sorry. I will save the depot debate for another day.
So we’ll get back to Groundwork Palette.
I do wanna touch on how unusual and essentially indescribable the pomade texture pomade, pomade, pomade. I’m glad that Danessa didn’t just name these creams or gels or something that’s a term that we already use and are very familiar with in makeup because the texture of this is something else.
And it’s so far from cream or a grease paint. Yep. Makeup is facing forward for sure, and that’s really exciting.
So these pomades, these pomades can’t describe it. It’s almost as if you spatula some out of the palette and it’s kind of squishy. It’s almost malleable like you can sculpt with it. But even though you put it on and you blend it out and it goes on really softly and velvety, but it doesn’t feel like a cream, it feels like a powder going on, actually.
But then you also don’t feel like you have two seconds to blend it before it sets. It’s really like nothing I’ve used before in makeup. And honestly, I feel like this might just change things for us, makeup artists a little bit.
And my prediction is that we will start seeing this formulation in more and more products as soon as they can get them manufactured as well.
So this might very well become your go-to palette for character makeup. I love the idea of using this palette with alcohol or isododecane for aging spots and in character makeups as well as beauty looks. I do feel like it’s got the potential for that much versatility.
